Objective
Across hands-on exercises you’ll apply new knowledge to improve learning outcomes. The course concludes with theoretical and practical KNX exams. On passing, you’ll receive the official KNX certificate and can enter a KNX Partner contract with the KNX Association.
Course Details
The KNX Basic Certification course covers KNX topology design, using ETS to program KNX with lighting and shading examples, and running diagnostics in ETS. The course includes both Theory and Practical exams covering the following:
Theory
- Introduction to the concept of the KNX Bus
- System arguments
- Technical system overview (communication)
- Principles of KNX device design
- Installation guidelines
- Network structure (topology)
- Media (twisted pair and wireless)
- Protocol structures (telegrams)
Practical Lessons
- Working with the universal KNX Engineering Tool, ETS (latest version)
- Realisation of building functions:
- Switching and dimming lighting
- Sunshade control
- Central functions
- Basics of individual room control: heating and cooling
- Simple logic and displays
- Cross-network functions (working with couplers)
Exams
- Exam – Theory (online): 1 h 30 min
- Exam – Practical: 1 h 30 min
Learning Outcome
Participants gain a solid foundation in KNX and the skills to work on KNX-based equipment, achieving basic-level accreditation as a KNX building automation technician.
